Infant and Child Seat Inspections offered at Community Ambulance Association of Ambler

We are committed to safety in our community, which includes providing education and services to prevent potential emergencies. One service we offer is FREE infant and child car-seat inspections. As a service to the community, and in partnership with the Upper Dublin Police Department, Community Ambulance Association of Ambler offered free car seat inspections at our station in December.

On Saturday, December 2, 2017, our trained and certified inspectors inspected 17 car seats with support from 5 volunteer car seat technicians. Some car seats needed to be tightened or altered to meet car seat or car manufacturer recommendations for installation. Details that might be adjusted are the rear/forward facing of the seat, recline, removal of so-called “after- market items” such as padding or mirrors to the seat, tightening of straps and re-positioning of 5-point harness.

Having the correct car seat installed correctly can protect a child from injury from a car accident –  www.safekids.org reports the following general statistics for child and infant car seats:

  • Road injuries are the leading cause of preventable deaths and injuries to children in the United States
  • Correctly used child safety seats can reduce the risk of death by as much as 71 percent
  • Three out of four car seats are not used or installed correctly
