CAAA currently maintains a fleet of 5 ambulances, also known as Mobile Intensive Care Units, as well as several EMS Bike Patrol Units, and an On-Call Officer’s Duty. Our fleet responds from our station on Butler Pike in Ambler from Paper Mill Rd in Springfield Township, providing coverage to the entire region. Our ambulances meet or exceed state mandates for minimum equipment required for patient care.
Standard equipment includes equipment that early ambulances could only dream of providing. CAAA ambulances are equipped with a 12 lead EKG monitor / defibrillator that allows live EKG readings of heart rhythms and can be transmitted via modems provided by an Ambler Rotary grant in 2018 directly to hospital ER staff. This monitor can also identify the need for and deliver a shock to a patient’s heart. Each ambulance is equipped with oxygen and a LUCAS device – which can be used to provide mechanical CPR compressions to a patient while crews safely treat and transport the patient for further medical care. Some ambulances have Power Life stretchers for patient and crew safety, and all are equipped with a Stair Lift – used to transport patients in places inaccessible by the stretcher. Also provided are IV administered medications to treat heart issues, overdoses, diabetic emergencies, nausea, significant pain, and more.
Because of the heavy day-to-day use of the ambulances the vehicles are only used 3 – 5 years, with replacement values approximately $200,000 PER vehicle.
